Ingredients

  • 4 slices sourdough or multigrain bread
  • 1 ripe pear thinly sliced
  • 4 oz sharp cheddar cheese sliced or shredded
  • 1 tbsp butter softened
  • Optional: 1 tsp honey or a few arugula leaves for garnish

Instructions

  • Assemble sandwiches: Lay out the bread slices. On two slices, layer cheddar cheese and thinly sliced pears. Add a drizzle of honey or a few arugula leaves if using. Top with remaining bread slices.
  • Butter the bread: Spread butter on the outside of each slice of bread.
  • Grill the sandwiches: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook the sandwiches for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  • Serve: Slice in half and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use a firm pear like Bosc or Anjou for the best texture.
  • Add caramelized onions for extra depth of flavor.
  • Great served with tomato soup or a simple green salad.
