Ingredients

  • 8 oz block of mozzarella or cheddar cheese cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 cups crushed Doritos any flavor, Nacho Cheese or Cool Ranch recommended
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions

  • Prepare the coating stations: Set up three shallow bowls — one with flour, one with whisked eggs and milk, and one with crushed Doritos.
  • Coat the cheese: Dip each cheese cube into the flour, then the egg mixture, then roll it in crushed Doritos, pressing gently to adhere. Repeat the egg and Doritos steps for a thicker crust.
  • Chill the coated cheese: Place coated cheese cubes on a tray and freeze for 10–15 minutes to help the coating stick and prevent melting too quickly when frying.
  • Heat the oil: In a deep pan or fryer, heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry the bites: Fry a few coated cheese cubes at a time for about 1–2 minutes, or until golden and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pan.
  • Drain and serve: Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

  • Freezing the coated cheese helps prevent leaking while frying.
  • Try different Doritos flavors for fun variations like Spicy Sweet Chili or Flamin' Hot.
  • Serve with ranch, marinara, or chipotle mayo for dipping.
