Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water for simple syrup
  • 1 ½ cups fresh lemon juice about 6–8 lemons
  • 3 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices and fresh mint for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Make the Simple Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and the sugar. Heat over medium, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  • Juice the Lemons: While the syrup cools, juice the lemons until you have 1 ½ cups of fresh lemon juice.
  • Combine Ingredients: In a large pitcher, mix the cooled simple syrup, fresh lemon juice, and 3 cups of cold water. Stir well.
  • Adjust to Taste: Taste the lemonade and adjust the sweetness or tartness by adding more water or lemon juice as desired.
  • Serve: Fill glasses with ice cubes, pour the lemonade over, and garnish with lemon slices and fresh mint if desired.

Notes

  • For a stronger lemon flavor, reduce the amount of water or increase the lemon juice.
  • To make the lemonade ahead of time, prepare the simple syrup and lemon juice mixture, then refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • For a flavored twist, consider adding a few sprigs of fresh herbs like basil or rosemary during the cooling process of the syrup.
