Ingredients

  • 1 cup 226g unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup 150g granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup 165g packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups 384g freshly milled soft white wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips semi-sweet or milk chocolate

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Mix the wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Add the eggs: Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next.
  • Combine the dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the freshly milled flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Combine wet and dry mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  • Add chocolate chips: Fold in the chocolate chips evenly throughout the dough.
  • Shape the cookies: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  • Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Ensure the melted butter is not too hot when mixing with the sugars to prevent the eggs from cooking prematurely.
  • For a variation, consider adding nuts or dried fruits to the dough.
  • If you prefer a chewier texture, slightly underbake the cookies and let them rest on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them.
