- 2 cups fresh seedless watermelon cubed
- ¼ cup fresh lime juice about 2 limes
- 3 oz silver tequila
- 1 oz orange liqueur or use fresh orange juice for fewer calories
- ½ –1 teaspoon agave syrup or honey optional, to taste
- Ice for shaking and serving
- Salt or Tajín for rimming glasses (optional)
- Lime wedges and watermelon slices for garnish
Juice the watermelon:
Add the cubed watermelon to a blender and blend until smooth. Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl or measuring cup to remove pulp (optional for a smoother drink).
Mix the margarita:
In a cocktail shaker, combine 1 cup of the watermelon juice, lime juice, tequila, orange liqueur (or juice), and agave syrup if using. Add a handful of ice and shake well for about 15–20 seconds.
Prepare the glasses:
If desired, rub a lime wedge around the rim of your glasses and dip into salt or Tajín for a spicy twist.
Serve:
Fill glasses with ice and strain the margarita mixture into each. Garnish with a lime wedge or small watermelon slice.
-
For a frozen version, freeze watermelon cubes first and blend with the other ingredients instead of shaking.
-
To make a mocktail, skip the tequila and liqueur and replace with sparkling water or a splash of orange juice.
-
Adjust sweetness to taste based on how sweet your watermelon is.
-
This recipe is naturally low-cal and hydrating—great for summer barbecues and poolside relaxing.
